| Renewal. |
[31 Dec 2008|06:28pm] |
Yesterday while assembling the closets and shelves so much needed to make this empty collection of rooms into a home, Verðandi (Well ok, it's Belldandy from OMG) dropped down shattering the glass of her frame. Behind her was the poster of Skuld that I had put there for safekeeping so many years before because I didn't have enough place for all the frames, and promptly had forgotten about. I hadn't seen this poster since the first time I lived in Amsterdam before my marriage nearly ten years ago.
My marriage didn't go as I had hoped. A few months after out marriage my wife became ill, and for years I've had the role of the carer. Making sure everything went smoothly less bumpy. Since we agreed to split up early this year, and my moving out of the house nearly 2 months ago, I've been trying to find who I am. I'm no longer the naive boy that was deeply into Anime, Roleplaying games and the SCA. Nor do I feel it's time to move on and assume the role of crone (Urðr), or the male equivalent of that anyway.
Now that I've moved about a few times and seem to have found a place to settle for a while, I think I'm going to take this chance of renewal. Like a squirrel in Yggdrasil I'm going to take the chance to jump from one branch to another, rather than track back to who and what I was. I have no idea what is woven into my future, but it's coming regardless, and I'm looking forward to it.
Happy 2009 all. May the Norns cross your threads with those of wonderful friends and lovers.
Disclaimer 1: Due to the growth in numbers of humans since olden times, the Norns are a bit overworked. Any action you can take to assist in the coming about of this future would be greatly appreciated. Should you happen to be an atheist, then you can ignore this as you would be doing this anyway.
Disclaimer 2: Don't worry, I'm not really that seriously pagan. I nowadays would classify myself as an Atheist with an animistic bend . I am however going to buy a new frame for both Beldandy and Skuld, and make sure that the two of them can join Urd as a triptych.

| Writer's Block: Checklist for Eternity |
[31 Aug 2008|06:07pm] |
If you could live forever how would you spend your time?
I would spend a lot of time in researching eternal youth as well. After all, what good is eternal life if, like the the Sibyl of Cumea, my body is turning to dust over the ages.
There are many things I can think of, but with eternal life, space exploration comes to mind. Suddenly it is possible to visit other starts within your lifetime.
Other than that, I can only imagine hat anything will get boring once you do it long enough.

| Writer's Block: Being Another Creature |
[26 Jul 2008|11:13am] |
If you could be any creature, any mobile life form at all, which would it be and why?
A fox, which should be obvious once you look at my name. I like foxes a lot. In folklore in large parts of the world the world they are both the trickster, and the most helpful nature spirit there is. I'm not sure whether the 'love-affair' started with Disney's 'Robin Hood', 'van den vos Reinaerde' (which is a medieval dutch story) or with the Japanese Kitsune. I just think they are marvelous creatures. Also, there are some wonderful pluche foxes, of which I have a small collection ^.^ In practicality though, a fox's life isn't easy these days. Here in Europe, wild areas are ever decreasing. Even though we're giving huge areas of land back to nature, a lot of that is used by people who need to escape city life. As a result foxes are slowly moving into urban areas, where they are considered pests by the people who live there.
This got me thinking that a cat would be good too, as that at least would allow me to roam about the city in relative freedom. Besides, you get to sit on people and rub your face on them. ^.^
Mostly though... even with all the flaws and troubles such a life has, I think I'd like human the most. Lets blame that on the opposable thumbs. ^.~

An idea struck me while watching the Eurovision song contest last night. No, I'm not going to say anything about the quality of music or the politics involved in voting. Instead I wanted to point at the fact the wide-screen TV is now so much the standard that no thought is given to those of us who are quite happy watching the old 4:3 screens.
The TV we use is about 18 years old, It's actually one of the first models with a scart interface, which means it can still be connected to pretty much anything. It still works perfectly, great screen, good sound. Add to this that I'm not likely to spend much time in front of it (I only follow four TV series*), and there really isn't a good reason to buy a new one.
For the Eurovision contest this means I could see the points of the left column) but couldn't really see which countries they were. There was more then enough talk in between to figure some out, and they kept giving the top 3, but I had no real idea who numbers 4 and 5 were.
When I watch commercials this actually gets almost Zen-like. Many commercials will show the brand name in one of the corners. This results in me seeing some really artistic short films with an occasional urge to buy something, and not knowing what it was about.
Am I alone in this, or are there more of you watching old-style TVs?
*) Doctor Who, Torchwood, Criminal Minds, BSG

A lot of people probably already know this one. Still, it's an excellent message set to great music.

| Writer's Block: Stolen Goods |
[24 Mar 2008|05:19pm] |
What is the most valuable thing you've ever had stolen from you?
Monetary value: My bicycle. Which is all to common in the Netherlands.
Emotional value: Years ago while moving a box with some of my plush animals that I've had since I was 3 or so, got lifted from the car. I don't think the thieves got much richer. But I still miss them sometimes.

Not for long though, the 1mm layer of snow that fell half an hour ago is mostly gone already. Only a few lost flakes on the top of cars.
Shame really, I like snow. ^_^

A few days ago rev_dr_ace posted a discussion on "Health care in the US".
As there are several people among you who have witnessed health care both in, and outside the US, you might wish to read, or even contribute to this discussion.

Gosh, 2 years go by so very, very fast slow.
What can I say, "I've been busy" is true enough. "Not much to tell" feels right, though it might be a bit of a stretch.
I don't know how often I'm going to post, but I came across this xkcd comic, which was too good to ignore:

Rest in peace Gary, and know that your adventures have touched the dreams of millions.

Funny things happen when you're to tired to do useful stuff. Tonight it meant playing puzzle pirates far past midnight. At the point where I would normally be going to be however the TV managed to trick me. Instead of the dreaded night-time 'entertainment' which usually consists of really long home shopping commercials, interwoven with short 'adult' commercials, someone at the TV-station actually started the program for the entire series of Coupling. This being the perfect background stuff to keep me amused I managed to keep playing puzzle pirates until about 5 minutes ago, being 6:30am local time.
this being said, I'm of to bed.
Good morning all!

Just 10 minutes after I mention that I don't have enough slots for the userpics I want, I get an email from LJ for the new Sponsored+ account. I'm not sure whether I'm ready to start spamming you guys just yet though...
